They say you can’t please everyone, and no story illustrates this better than the tale of Abu Abed and the Donkey.
Abu Abed lived in a village with his son, and whenever they needed something from a neighboring village, they would take their donkey and set off. As they passed through the first village, Abu Abed sat on the donkey while his son walked beside him. The villagers whispered, "What kind of father makes his son walk while he rides in comfort?"
Hearing this, Abu Abed switched places with his son. In the next village, people shook their heads, saying, "What kind of son lets his old father walk while he rides?"
So, in the third village, they decided to walk alongside the donkey. The villagers laughed, "How foolish they have a donkey but aren’t using it!"
Determined to silence the criticism, they both sat on the donkey as they entered the fourth village. This time, people gasped, "How cruel! Overloading the poor animal like that!"
In the final village, Abu Abed and his son, exhausted by the constant judgment, decided to carry the donkey. The people burst into laughter, saying, "Look at these fools! Who carries a donkey instead of riding it?"
No matter what they did, someone always had something to say.
And that’s the reality of creative work art, design, ideas—some will love it, others won’t. But at the end of the day, this is who I am, and this is my work.
